Shirley A. Jacob, 79, of Sumner, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her home in Sumner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner with Rev. Andrew Marr celebrating the Mass. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding Mass at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Shirley’s name to SEMS in Sumner or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Shirley Ann, daughter of Paul and Anna (Schoenle) Niedert was born September 20, 1937, in Waterloo. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Shirley received her education in the Sumner Schools graduating from Sumner High School in 1955. On March 4, 1957, she was united in marriage with Charles “Marlowe” Jacob at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. Shirley worked as a dietician at Community Memorial Hospital for many years prior to retiring in 1995. Following retiring from the hospital, she was a consultant with Mary Kay for several years. Shirley was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gambling, and loved her flowers.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Betty (Denny) Erhardt of Denver, Michael (Mary Ellen) Jacob of Council Bluffs, Sue (Kevin) Shonka of Tripoli, Linda (Paul) Nilges of Tripoli, and Steve (Cindy) Jacob of Sumner; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Janice (Harold) Bolton of Rochester, Minnesota, and Darlene Trouten of Decorah; and one brother, Jim Niedert of Rochester, Minnesota.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marlowe in March of 1995; a grandson, Andy Erhardt, in July of 1983; and one brother, Donald Niedert.
